Sun Valley

Sun Valley is home to just under 1,500 people, and is often thought of in conjunction with the nearby cities of Ketchum and Hailey. This beautiful central region of Idaho has long been a seasonal home to the rich, famous, and powerful since gaining public attention in the late 1930s. Sun Valley is not only the stomping ground for wealthy celebrities, but it is also visited by tourists from all over the world to enjoy skiing, hiking, ice skating, golfing, cycling, trail riding, and much more. Most famous for its skiing, Sun Valley is also a paradise for golfers. The Sun Valley Resort has 45 holes over 3 distinctly different and excellent courses all surrounded by a spectacular mountain setting.

Sun Valley is nestled in a breathtaking spot among a large valley rich with creeks and forested mountain slopes. This world class ski resort town and all season tourist destination lies on the edge of the Sawtooth and Challis National Forests near the Big Wood River, the place where every fisherman longs to be. This temperate paradise soaks in a pleasant mountain desert climate with humidity levels hovering around 30% with 15 inches of rain per year. The long days give Sun Valley its well deserved name with 15 hours of sunlight in the summer.

Skiing

Sun Valley is often dubbed as an original. This small Idaho gem is home to one of America's first ski resorts and is the site of the world's first chairlift, constructed in 1936. Ranked as one of the world's best ski towns by National Geographic, Sun Valley is the Rocky Mountain destination for skiers and tourists from all over the world. Bald Mountain is where the action is, with 3,400 vertical feet of some of the most fine groomed plunges in the world. “Baldy” is renowned for its lengthy runs of constant gradient and varying levels of difficulty. Coupled with the absence of wind, Baldy is often thought of as one of the better ski mountains in the world. Bald Mountain has 2,054 acres of skiable acres and 75 runs serviced by 14 ski lifts. The mountain has more uphill capacity per skier than any other ski area. Also part of the Sun Valley ski resort is Dollar Mountain. This treeless ski hill caters more to beginner and intermediate skiers and is served by four chairlifts.
