Power County, Idaho Homes and Lifestyle
American Falls is the largest city in Power County. It’s named for the falls on the Snake River. With the sports paradise of the Snake River Plain and the surrounding mountains, real estate choices exist to accommodate every taste in activities and views.
Whether you’re a hunter and/or fisher, or prefer to observe wildlife through the lens of a camera or binoculars, Power County, Idaho and the surrounding areas will delight. The Minidoka National Wildlife Refuge and Massacre Rocks State Park are nearby and the area is home to more than 200 different species of birds. In August, American Falls hosts the Shorebird Festival, attracting birdwatchers from across the country. The lake and river are home to rainbow and other species of trout, crappie, perch, and catfish and open to fishing year-round. The surrounding mountains are home to deer, elk, and moose, and during the winter, bald eagles nest here.
If you’re into making your own excitement the river is wide open! Canoeing, rafting, and white water fun are just outside your door. But that’s not all. Don’t forget you’re within a very short drive of snow skiing and snowmobile riding in the winter, and hiking, mountain biking, and all sorts of off-road fun the rest of the year. With a knowledgeable real estate agent, you can probably find the spot you want, with the view you like, and the fun you like to have right on your own property!
Last, but certainly not the least popular, don’t forget the opportunities for golf and sailing. There’s a full service marina on the lake, and two scenic golf courses in the area, just waiting to entertain and relax you.
When you’ve worn yourself out on the water or the slopes, you’re still not out of things to do in Power County. There’s the Power County Historical Society’s Museum, complete with research library, which offers pictures and the full story of the town’s move almost 100 years ago. There’s also plenty of cultural and historic offerings and chances to learn located in other nearby towns in southeast Idaho, such as Pocatello, just up the highway.
