Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent

 

In the last few years, the number of real estate agents in the Treasure Valley has multiplied, becoming not only a popular choice for a career but a very lucrative one as well. Not to mention, being a real estate agent means you get to be your own boss, you get to set your hours, and you aren’t restricted to any particular amount of pay each year. However, with every 10 people that become real estate agents, it seems that 7 of them quit within a few years or even months. Why do you suppose that is? It is different for everyone, but most of the time it comes down to a business management problem. You see, a lot of people who become real estate agents are drawn in by all the great perks like we mentioned before, but they don’t see the reality of what it takes to be successful in the real estate game; they don’t realize there is a whole other side of being a real estate agent that you must be versed in, and that is business management. When a person works for themselves, they own a job which makes them in charge of finding clients, making a schedule (and keeping that schedule), all the paperwork, and so on and so for.

We suggest that anyone who wants to be successful as a real estate agent, learn all they can about business. There are many ways to learn about business and to become more skilled, but the way we are going to talk about today is through books. In our local libraries, there are thousands of books on business and many of them have some really valuable information, but here we have listed our favorite business books of all-time — the ones that we think everyone could read if they want to be successful in real estate.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #1: “Sun Tzu and the Art of Business” by Mark McNeilly

One of the most interesting business books ever written would have to be “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu. While it was originally meant as a textbook for warfare, Sun Tzu’s teachings are very applicable to the world of business. In “Sun Tzu and the Art of Business” by Mark McNeilly he adapts 6 of Sun Tzu’s teachings to the business world. By learning these tactics and strategies it will help you to be a more able business person.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #2: “Building a Marketing Plan” by Ho Yin Wong, Kylie Radel, and Roshnee Ramsaran-Fowdar

Marketing and sales are the lifeblood of any business. For this purpose, we suggest you read “Building a Marketing Plan”. It was originally written as a marketing textbook but it is both easy to read and easy to implement so it is a must have for any business person. It goes through a step-by-step guide on how to build a marketing plan from the ground up. It is awesome. After reading it most will know how to build an effective marketing plan.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #3: “The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber

“The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber is a business classic that combines teaching and story into a greatly guided allegory. He tells the story of Sarah, the owner of a pie store, and how she took her business from a train wreck to a labor of love.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #4: “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki

“Rich Dad Poor Dad” is one of the most famous motivational books on personal finances in recent history. Robert Kiyosaki explains the mindset of the rich, how the old ideologies of work and money are outdated and explains what you need to do to start yourself on the path to financial freedom. It is a must read.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #5: “Cashflow Quadrant” by Robert Kiyosaki

The second book by Robert Kiyosaki on this list, the “Cashflow Quadrant” is the unofficial sequel to “Rich Dad Poor Dad”. In Cashflow Kiyosaki goes more in depth on the subject of “the rich mind set” and how one should structure their life strategically to make the most money in the most secure fashion. This should be read right after reading “Rich Dad Poor Dad” so you can capitalize on what you have already learned.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #6: “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Steven Covey

Another famous book in the way of motivation, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” is a great book for both real estate agents and non-real estate agents alike. In it, the brilliant Steven Covey explains the 7 habits that everyone must have to not only have a successful business but a successful and fulfilling life as well. While it is written to everyone, business leaders of every kind can gain a lot of insights from Covey through this book.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #7: “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” by John Maxwell

John Maxwell is a legend in the leadership and self-help world with people like Steven Covey and even Tony Robbins. In his book “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” he explains what every leader must do to be effective, fair, loved, and respected. He takes a very holistic view of what it means to be a leader and teaches how to lead in a natural and non-threatening way.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #8: “The Millionaire Real Estate Agent” by Gary Keller

The last of the tactics based books we have on this list, “The Millionaire Real Estate Agent” is a book that any success minded real estate agent should read. While we can’t guarantee that reading it will instantly transform you into a millionaire, we can definitely tell you that it will help you get on the right track. Many great authors, including Robert Kiyosaki from earlier, have raved about this book and recommend highly.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #9: “Start With Why” by Simon Sinek

“Start With Why” by Simon Sinek is a wonderful book that explains what business leaders need to do to create a long-lasting business. He goes into detail about important it is to have a 'why' in mind when you create a business. Businesses with a why are always going to be more unified and successful than those that don’t.

Business Books for the Successful Real Estate Agent #10: “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill is probably the oldest of the authors on this list. His book “Think and Grow Rich” is a piece of art that transcends time. Written in the early part of the 1900s, “Think and Grow Rich” is a conglomeration of the similar traits Hill found in the world’s most successful business leaders. He interviewed and studied many successful businesses and business leaders in his time and from all that study he derived the most important parts of the formula for success.

The world is full of great books out there and these are only a small sample of them. So, don’t just stick with these, keep reading books about business and leadership; glean what you can from them. Pretty soon, you’ll be knocking on success’s door yourself. You never know, maybe you’ll write a book yourself and see it on a list like this someday.
