Boise's New Glass Recycling Program
In an effort to make the program affordable to residents and to boost the local economy, all the glass will be crushed by a local company, Environmental Abrasives. The crushed glass will then be used as a sandblasting medium. Using a local company reduces the cost of shipping the glass out of state and saves space in local landfills. It truly is an environmentally-friendly solution!
Here is some important information for Boiseans to keep in mind:
-The ordering period for your gray glass-only cart is from June 15, 2011 to August 15, 2011. See the helpful links below to sign up online.
-Carts will hold up to 65 gallons. Orders placed after August 15th will be delivered within 30 days.
-While the collection schedule is not final just yet, it will occur every 4 weeks.
-On the day of pickup, the cart should be at the curb by 7:00 am and there should be space between it and other carts.
-Do not overfill the cart. The lid must be able to close otherwise glass could spill onto the street and break.
Residents won't want to delay in getting their glass cart orders in. This program will certainly help relieve the hassle of taking glass to the drop off centers and will make recycling just that much easier.
