Boise Day Trips for Everyone!

Lucky Peak Reservoir: Lucky Peak lies 8 miles east of Boise via State Route 21. There are three distinct day-use units to Lucky Peak, near Lucky Peak Lake. You'll find Discovery Park, a roadside park for picnics, walking the dog, or fishing along the Boise River. Sandy Point is at the base of Lucky Peak Dam, and is loved for its sandy beach and clear water. Spring Shores has lakeside access for water lovers with two boat ramps, parking, a full-service marina, on-site boat & more rentals plus a convenience store.

If you drive up to the small town of Horseshoe Bend, which is about 30 minutes outside Boise via Route 44, there's a train to take a ride on called the Thunder Mountain Line. Everybody will love to take one of the trips offered by the Thunder Mountain Line, which provide amazing scenery as you ride through beautiful national forests, mountain meadows, hillsides, and along the Payette River.

If you're in the mood for a little drive, you can visit the Shoshone Ice Cave, which lies about 118 miles away. . The Ice Cave is awesome. This natural wonder is a 1,000 foot long lava tube with an ice depth ranging between 8 and 30 feet in height. Dress warmly before you decide to take the tour, as the temperature down there is constantly below freezing.

Visit the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. Deer Flat is located in Nampa, and you can start the day with a self-guided drive on the Lake Lowell Sector Bird Tour or the Snake River Islands Sector Bird Tour. You can hike a half mile self-guided nature trail. You can enjoy watching and photographing wildlife, or fish and hunt during the in-season times. Of course, there's always boating and swimming at Lake Lowell!
