Situated between the Danskin and Owyhee Mountains, the attractively-named, charming and small city of Mountain Home, Idaho evinces an undeniable charm to visitors, many of whom decide to become residents. Mountain Home, proper, occupies just over five square miles of land; in most accountings however, Mountain Home also includes the nearby Air Force base and the tiny town of Pine. For the entire area, population numbers 12,266, but as the military base shuttles personnel in and out, a bit of fluctuation regarding the area's actual population figures occurs. Location and population aside, many families considering a relocation to Mountain Home will be much more interested in the Mountain Home School District.Diversity of Schools
For a community as small as Mountain Home, there are a surprising number of schools. At the high school level, Mountain Home has Mountain Home Senior High, the area's largest school, with an enrollment typically numbering 1100. The Tigers compete in a variety of athletics, from football, basketball and baseball, to tennis, soccer, track and field, golf, softball and wrestling. Additionally, the town is home to Idaho Virtual High Charter School (enrollment:254), Richard McKenna Charter High (enrollment:39), and the Shiloh Christian School (grades 7-12; enrollment:24).
Mountain Home Junior High exists as the area's only junior high, numbers an enrollment of 623 8th and 9th graders. Likewise, Hacker Middle School is the town's sole middle school, with an enrollment of 889 fifth through seventh graders.
For the youngest set, kindergarten age to 4th Grade, Mountain Home has a multiplicity of schools from which to select. West Elementary School enrolls 506 students, while North Elementary counts 488 youngsters in its enrollment figures, which also includes attendance of Pre-Kindergarten classes. Also educating pre-K to 4th Grade, is East
Elementary School, with an enrollment of 478 students. The nearby military base also has a small primary school serving the soldiers, Mountain Home Air Force Base Elementary School. As well, nearby Pine has a single elementary school servicing Kindergarten to Grade 8.Quality of Education
All of these schools are fully accredited by the Idaho State Department of Education. As such, concerns over Mountain Home's young population receiving proper educations are simply non-existent. For the prospective resident of Mountain Home, Idaho, this is excellent news. Each school in Mountain Home also receives very good marks on their own individual report cards, as evaluated and determined by the Department of Education. For the home-town charm, the vast array of activities in the area, and for the solid, very good quality of its school system, Mountain Home, Idaho receives excellent compliments, and deserves strong consideration from any prospective resident to this town.
