Meridian Idaho's Initial Point Art Gallery

Posted by Kevin Hughes on Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 at 7:27am.

Meridian HomesOne of the gems in the center of Treasure Valley is the City of Meridian. This lively and growing community in southwest Idaho is perfect for families looking to purchase their first home in Idaho. Something that makes Meridian so special is its focus on the arts. In fact, the Meridian Arts Commission's mission is to promote and encourage all facets of the arts in order to make Meridian a premier place to live, work and raise a family.

To that end, the Meridian Arts Commission is in charge of administering the Initial Point Gallery. This art gallery is on the 3rd floor of Meridian City Hall which is located at 33 East Broadway Avenue in Downtown Meridian. This gallery is open to the public and is free of charge. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (excluding major holidays).

Many artist and photographers who live in Idaho are featured in the gallery in rotating displays through out the year. The exhibits are diverse and of the highest quality, attracting many visitors with a love and appreciation for art. The gallery itself has an open, airy quality to it with room to move around and areas to sit and contemplate the pieces.

The Initial Point Gallery frequently hosts receptions for its featured artists. Last October, two artists, William "Bill" Gardoski and Jerry Kenecke, were on hand to greet visitors and discuss their work. And in November, the Idaho Watercolor Society’s Fall Show & Reception featured watercolor paintings from Idaho residents, many of whom attended the reception to meet guests and talk about their art.

Local Art
Over the past couple of years, the gallery has held a “Call for Artists”. It offers a venue for local artists to showcase their talents. The gallery accepts professional-quality, ready-to-display materials. This includes photographs, oil paintings, watercolors, sculptures, fabric art (such as quilting or needlepoint), and the like. Those who work or live in Treasure Valley are encouraged so submit their work.

Everyone who finds a home in Meridian will appreciate the city’s commitment to the arts. This dedication to making Meridian a great place to live is evident, as the city has received numerous accolades and was named in 2010 by Family Circle Magazine as one of the Top 10 Best Cities for Families.
