Improve Your Idaho Home in and out for LessPosted by Kevin Hughes on Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 at 1:05pm.
If you've lived in your house for any length of time, you may find yourself beginning to get bored. It doesn't take long for your own home to seem unappealing and cravings for change to creep up on you.
The good news is that you can do a lot with very little. You can add jazz to rooms by making the smallest of changes. With a little bit of creativity and some time investment, you can transform your own living space and add life to every room. Take it day by day or weekend by weekend and in no time you'll feel like you're living in a brand new house!
Here are just a few easy ideas to improve and change both the inside and outside of your home.
Lighting. Arguably the most inexpensive and easy home improvements you can make, changing up the lighting and light fixtures in your rooms can change the entire atmosphere. You can just change the shade or the light itself and be on your way.
Area Rugs. These are a great option for those who want or need new carpet but can't afford it. Choose a rug you love and lay it over areas that have the worst spots and easily hide damage or unsightly stains. If you're looking for a darker change, choose darker colors and vice versa if you want a lighter feel.
De-clutter and clean. Cleaning up and de-cluttering goes a long, long way towards making your home more livable, attractive and different. We all accumulate junk, but by getting rid of it you'll quickly discover how much more room you have! Try steam cleaning your carpets, cleaning light fixtures and polish your woodwork. See everything to its greatest potential and you'll soon discover that maybe things aren't so bad.
Rearrange furniture. By rearranging your living room furniture, you may find that the room is larger than you thought it was. Try moving things around a bit and you might discover that there are better ways of utilizing your space. You'll love how it completely transforms the room.
Add new accessories. If you can, try replacing some of the key accessories you use in your bedroom and bathroom. You might be surprised at what replacing your shower curtain can do for the bathroom, or by changing up your current bath mats/rugs with new ones. Try giving your boring bathroom a color lift, or if you're stuck with a décor you don't like, add colors that go well while minimizing the features you don't like. In the bedroom, pick out a new comforter and pillow shams to instantly flare up the room. Try adding a bed skirt and new curtains.
Home repair. Home repair can be expensive, and if you're working with a tight budget and still want some changes done to your home, there are plenty of affordable changes you can make. Add new knobs on cabinets and doors, buy new towel rods, replace burned out bulbs, patch up paint holes & cracks and finish up all those little unfinished projects you've been putting off.
Plants and new artwork. If you've had the same family photos on the walls for some time, it might be time to update them or add different ones. If you're attached to the photos inside, try changing the frames. Add some new artwork or posters to jazz up the room. Plants can really do a lot for a room as well, with bright blooms or leaves, plus they improve the air in your house as well.
Going outside? Trim the shrubs, paint or replace your mailbox, pick up trash, wash the house, paint the shutters, annihilate weeds, change or clean fixtures, paint your front door....the list of small and inexpensive things you can do to the outside of your Idaho home is endless! The hard part, perhaps, is finding the time and motivation to get out there and do it.
The results and satisfaction you'll get from all these do it yourself projects make the effort well worth it.
