Idaho's Starlight Mountain Theater

Posted by Kevin Hughes on Friday, June 3rd, 2011 at 11:57am.

Starlight Mountain Theater in Crouch is Idaho's answer to musical broadway. It's a semi-professional theater company that treats vacationing families from all around the nation to local residents in seeing top-class musical theater at its very best - classic shows like Annie, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, plus all-original shows, like those based on such movies as Disney's High School Musical andSingin' in the Rain.  On the scenic drive along the Payette River  On the Outskirts of Town on the way to Crouch, Starlight is a frequent stop by many enthusiasts and provides for a great show. As you glimpse the splendor and see the more unique parts of Idaho, you will find yourself getting hooked like many others,

In addition to nurturing the Boise area's local theatrical and musical talent - auditions are open to all- Starlight Mountain Theater's productions often involve major names in the regional theater scene.

During the warmer months, Starlight Mountain puts on its shows under the real White Way - the Milky Way, we mean - in a custom-built outdoor amphitheater that seats 300 people. It is truly authentic with the majestic river in the background. Shows are best enjoyed covered up with a warm blanket sitting next to your loved one and good friends. The layout of the stadium-style seating assures every patron an unobstructed view of the singing, dancing, and theatrics on the stage. This summer the theater will offer dinner-theater shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, with food catered by the local Sizzler Restaurant and served by Starlight's own actors. Price of the dinner: Just $11, including bottled water. Tickets for summer shows range from $10 for children to $24 for adults, depending on seating, day of the week. Season passes, group tickets, and other special deals, including family packages, are always available, too.

Come winter, the Starlight Mountain company moves indoors, most recently taking over a 100-seat facility called The Star, located at Eagle and Victory.

On the Payette RiverIn a few short years, Starlight Mountain Theater has grown to become one of the Boise area's major attractions, adding a dramatic twist to the Idaho outdoor activities such as kayaking and rafting, horseback riding, camping, and fishing. A variety of motels and camping facilities are available in the area, suitable to every budget. In fact, Starlight Mountain's summer amphitheater is located within an 17-acre park full of meadows that offers 14 spaces for RVs - eight of them fully-equipped - as well as five camping sites. This mountain setting near the Middle Fork of the Payette River offers a unique combination of the great outdoors and great culture. You will find, as many people of Idaho do,  that you wont be able to get enough of this serene setting.  No matter if you are making the drive from Mountain Home or  Marsing you won't regret it.

Starlight Musical Theater got its start as the lifelong dream of R. Ed Davis, an amateur actor and, later, professor of speech and theater at Southern Utah University. He'd always wanted to start a regional theater in his home state of Idaho so, with no small amount of courage, he decided to return there and launch a musical theater. With the financial backing of his parents, Starlight opened in May of 2000, and by 2005, the company had established itself as a non-profit theater. It has largely been a family affair, with Mr. Davis' father contributing his construction skills to building the actual theater, his mother, a seamstress, making costumes, and his wife handling choreographic chores.  Mr. Davis continues as executive and artistic director.     Summer 2011's season begins June 11 and continues until Sept. 10. Be there!

After you have finished shopping for Boise Real Estate or properties in other nearby Idaho areas- the Starlight Mountain Theatre is a quick one hour drive to some talented performances for the whole family to enjoy!
