Idaho Arts and Culture

Idaho State Capitol BldgIn addition to boasting staggering natural beauty and a plethora of outdoor sports for your family’s enjoyment, Idaho is also home to a tremendous art scene and plenty of culture.  When you make your new home in Idaho, especially the Boise area, you’ll get the full package. We've already discusseesd quite a few Boise events in previous blogs, so below we've listed just a few of the artistic and cultural spots from other areas to check out during your stay in Idaho.

Come and visit the Anne Reed Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho.  It is the first gallery in the state to exhibit large-scale contemporary photographs. With international contacts as well as a strong national reputation, the gallery continues to attract serious collectors as well as those wishing to acquire fine art for the first time.  Some decoration for your new Idaho home’s walls, perhaps?

If you and your family make your new home in Boise, be sure to check out the Basque Museum and Cultural Center.  Vastly educational and greatly historically relevant, Boise is home to the highest concentration of Basques in the United States. The Basque Museum and Cultural Center provides a glimpse into the history of the Basques in Idaho and their old-world origins. Visitors to the museum will be guided through a historic building, the 1864 Cyrus Jacobs-Uberuaga house, which was a pioneer family home and later used as a Basque boarding house from 1910 until 1969. The museum includes exhibits, classrooms, archives, a library and a gift shop. Your children may even take a field trip there, to their delight and educational advantage.

The Full Moon Gallery of Fine Art and Contemporary Craft in Twin Falls, Idaho, is an artist's cooperative in Historic Downtown Twin Falls that represents about 20 Magic Valley artists working in a variety of mediums including oil painting, watercolor, glass work, silversmithing, pottery, sculpture and more. New shows are displayed on a bi-monthly basis and artists’ receptions are held bi-monthly, as well, on the first Friday of the month.  Take a trip to Twin Falls and experience a vibrant local art scene that you won’t soon forget.

Idaho Culture SceneFor a step back in time, visit the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho.  The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude is located on the grounds of the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood. Established in 1931, the museum houses a unique collection of over 70,000 artifacts with some 11,000 on display, reflecting the early history of north central Idaho. Learn about the pioneer days through exhibits from the early mining and farming era, plus a varied collection of minerals, firearms, Nez Perce artifacts, religious items, and many more.

You and your family will find that Idaho has it all- incredible, preserved history, beautiful events and sights to see, and refreshing, gorgeous outdoors! All you need to do now is find that perfect Idaho house in Boise, Meridian, EagleNampa, or Caldwell to be able to truly call Idaho home.
