Within proximity of Idaho Real Estate, Brigham Young University-Idaho provides outstanding educational opportunities in and around the town of Rexburg, Idaho.
Known as the Campus on the Hill
The BYU-Idaho campus sits majestically on a hill overlooking the city of Rexburg and the Snake River Valley. With 40 academic buildings and residence halls spread over 400 acres, the university consists of six colleges and features a planetarium, an arboretum, wildlife museums, and athletic facilities. One notable structure on campus: the stunning Rexburg Idaho Temple which dominates the hilltop prominence. Off the main campus, the university maintains the Henry’s Fork Outdoor Learning Center, the Outdoor Learning Center at Badger Creek, and the Natural Science Center in Island Park.
Background
Founded in 1888 and known for much of its history as Ricks College, the university is now operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and transitioned from a junior college to a four-year institution in 2001. The LDS Church Educational System also oversees schools in Utah and Hawaii.
Academics
BYU-Idaho continues to offer Associate-degree programs along with its Bachelors curriculum. Thirty-eight departments across six colleges conduct a total of 103 bachelor-level programs and 18 associate-degree programs. Last year there were 14,944 full-time enrolled students coming from all 50 states and over 50 countries. About 40 percent of BYU–Idaho students matriculate from Idaho and over 98 percent of the school’s students belong to the LDS Church. It’s estimated that roughly 40 percent of undergraduates take a two-year break from studies to perform missionary service. One notable benefit from attending school at BYU-Idaho: its affordability, since about 70 percent of tuition is funded by the LDS Church.
