Tired of the same old boring waterways near your home? Ready for some new exciting rides that will never get old? Red Fish Lake is the place for you. With plenty of activities and events available in addition to the fishing, the whole family will have something to do!
History of Redfish Lake
Red Fish Lake was named for the sockeye salmon that once returned from the Pacific Ocean in such numbers that they turned the lake red. This alpine lake
is located in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It is north of Stanley in central Idaho's Custer county.
The north shore of the lake has a visitor center, camping sites and trail heads. In 1929 Red Fish Lake Lodge was built and remains as a popular summer retreat. The lodge has a marina, restaurants, bar, general store and fuel station. Nearby Stanley offers further conveniences.
The glacier lake is a gorgeous sight in the summertime. Snow covered peaks and pines surround the lake's clear water. The local Idaho real estate offers the beauty and seclusion of nature.

Hiking trails are located in the Sawtooth and White Cloud wilderness areas. Also, the
trail head to Thompson Peak, the highest point in the Sawtooth mountains, can be reached on
the north shore of the lake.
Single and multiple day rafting trips can be taken down the Salmon river. Rental boats and lake tours are available at the Red Fish Lake Lodge. Fishing is a popular attraction in the lake and Salmon river. Hunting is also available in the area. The Sawtooth fish hatchery offers self-guided tours of their facilities where the endangered sockeye salmon are being restored to the lake and nearby areas.
Stanley has a pioneer history museum. Basin Creek and Sunbeam have hot springs to enjoy. Meadow Creek Spa offers a massage and wine bar. The ghost town of Custer is an interesting sight to visit. There are also a number of scenic driving tours in the area.

The summer is the busiest time of year for the
area. The lake offers a cool retreat from the modern world. The lodge holds a
marathon event in May to enter in the season.
Bands from around Idaho, especially bluegrass favorites, perform throughout the summer months. Stanley offers free music nights every Sunday in a wonderful outdoor setting. Performances are held every Wednesday and Friday at the lodge's front lawn.
Living at Red Fish Lake

enjoy the smaller happenings of life. Yet, conveniences can still be found in
Stanley and other nearby towns.
