Gem County, Idaho Homes and Lifestyle
With a history reaching back to the early 1800's, Gem County is so named after Idaho's nickname, the Gem State, as well as its reputation for being the "gem" of fertility in Idaho. Emmett City is perhaps its most prominent feature, and Gem County real estate can range from small city property to more secluded farmland.
- Ola
- Letha
- Sweet
Ola is known for its historic buildings, some of which constructed at the turn of the 20th century and are still in use today. Letha and Sweet are former freight towns used during the gold rush and an important part of Idahoan and American history.Gem County is home to geological features uncommon in other parts of the country. Pickett's Corral is a natural lava rock formation that was once used as a hideout for bandits and thieves during the gold rush. Of course, the Idaho properties located there are now safe, as the heady days of the gold rush have long since passed. Those who choose to purchase in Gem County will also have easy access to the Roystone Hot Springs. Named for Roy Stone, the area was once a bustling health spa and resort. Now the springs are independently owned and are open to the public with a reservation.
As the Payette River cuts through Gem County, potential buyers will be able to cool themselves in the summer months near the scenic Black Canyon Dam, where the backwaters provide plenty of recreation and swimming. Residents can even enjoy water sports. For even more history, one can discover Freezeout Hill located near Emmett Valley. This landmark claimed many settlers during the 1800's, and is now known as a fascinating piece of Idaho lore.
Gem County has plenty to offer, from the streets of Emmett City to the flowing Payette River to the Roystone Hot Springs. Most importantly, buyers can enjoy the tranquility of Idaho property away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life while resting in comfortable proximity to Idaho's most populous city. With a growing population, historic landmarks, and beauty unlike anywhere else, Gem County is a desirable and attractive spot to settle.
