Butte County, Idaho, is a high desert rural area set in the southcentral part of the State. It has a population of less than 3,000, one-third of whom live in the county's largest town, Arco, which also serves as the county seat. Those looking for small town Idaho real estate might want to consider looking into this unique area. Established in February, 1917, Butte County was named for the many buttes seen rising majestically from the flood plains of the famous Snake River. These formations are said to have been used as landmarks by those traveling through the region, and especially by fur trappers who found the area to be plentiful in a diversity of animals.
