Sweet is a residential community in Gem County, Idaho. The countryside town is located 16 miles northeast of Emmett, and runs along a county highway 8 miles north of State Highway 52. The town was founded in 1885 by Ezekiel Sweet, and initially served as a supply location for farmers and ranchers in the Squaw Creek Valley. The town also had a central post office, and rapidly expanded with the Thunder Mountain Mines gold strike in the late 1800’s. As part of the economic boom, the town hosted saloons, hotels, numerous businesses and a newspaper. While fires destroyed most of the historic downtown area, the town continued to thrive and attract nearby residents. Today, Sweet is much smaller than the gold rush times and still boasts a post office and restaurant.
