Homedale Real Estate... Browse by Zip - 83628
Homedale, Idaho, population 2,535, was founded in 1909, along the banks of the Snake River. This southwestern Idaho town, has a physical area of .88 square miles, a notably large ethnic group of Basque heritage, and may well be the only town in America with a name chosen by drawing from a hat. Positioned very close to the Oregon border to the immediate west, Homedale is surrounded by fields of growing corn, hops, alfalfa and grapes. As well, there are some fifteen wineries growing grapes and producing wine in the area. The first bridge to span the Snake River was erected in 1920 by Homedale.

83628 Homedale Idaho Homes and Lifestyle
Age of Homes
According to the 2010 census tallies, Homedale has 1090 houses. The majority of these residential units were constructed between 1970 and 1979 – 42%, in fact. Some 289 units were built in the period between 1950 and 1969 (27%), and a surprising 200 houses date back to 1949 or older (18%). Reflecting the town's 'stuck in time' feel, only 147 housing units (13%) have been constructed in the years 1990-present. Founded in 1909, the older average age of Homedale homes is not altogether unexpected.
Home Values
As might be expected, considering the older age of houses in tiny Homedale, the average house value is $98,261. This falls well below the average home value across Idaho’s real estate, which is $171,700. For someone seeking small-town atmosphere, with appealingly-priced (but older) homes, one could do well to look carefully at Homedale. (All values as estimated in June 2011.)
Area Information
Homedale, measuring out at a sprawling .88 square miles in area is one of the smallest towns in Idaho; its county, Owyhee County, is however the second largest county in all of Idaho. Mostly young in age, the median age of Homedale is 28.6, and the ethnic breakdown is white (56%), and a surprising 39% Hispanic, with a majority of that percentage being Basque country-derived. Like many small Idaho towns, agriculture, retail and manufacturing are the key industries.
Neighborhoods and Parks
If Homedale is too tiny to attract attention for itself, the numerous parks available nearby and the recreational opportunities afforded by the parkes are not. For starters, there is the wonderful old mining town of Silver City, spectacularly well-preserved, and always worth a visit. Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park is close by, as is the Snake River Bird Sanctuary. Within Homedale proper, there are three tiny parks in which to play - one of which, Givens Hot Springs, has an indoor hot springs-fed pool. There are two golf courses in town, and a tennis complex. Key events that take place in Homedale are an annual Basque Dance (February), the Owyhee County Fair Rodeo (August), and the always delectable International Smorgasbord, an eating extravaganza featuring foods representing various parts of the world (2nd Saturday of February).
Nearby Shopping
One does not make a move to Homedale for the shopping opportunities. It is advised that someone looking for an opportunity to ring up the charge cards should instead drive to Nampa and/or Boise, both less than an hour's drive away.
