Age of Homes
Fruitland housing consists of about 1,872 residential units, of which 787 units were constructed between 1990 and the present - about 42%. Some 649 residences (34.7%) were built between 1970-1989, and 436 (23.3%) were erected prior to 1970. Like the town itself, the majority of homes in Fruitland are of relatively recent construction.
Home Values
The estimated home value for Fruitland is approximately $119,685, which when compared to the rest of Idaho real estate average value of $171,700, it makes Fruitland an appealing place to search for a new home. To consider: In 2000, the average home value in Fruitland was $79,100. With today's value just a shade under $120,000, that is a net increase of 34% - not too shabby, eh?!? (Values approximated in June 2011.)
Area Information
Fruitland has one high school - recent state champions in Football, Basketball, Baseball, Girls' Tennis and Softball - one middle school and one elementary school. The major industries of the town are manufacturing and retail, and the median household income stands at $36,803. The median age of residents is 31.3 years, and mostly white in ethnicity. Interestingly enough, like the nearby town of Homedale, there is a rather large population of Basque - Spanish-French - descent (28.8%).
Neighborhoods and Parks
To the east, about ninety-six miles away, lies the large and beautiful Boise National Forest. With its panoramic postcard views, and its mountainous terrain studded with a vast array of conifers (pines) of every sort its sure to take your breath away. Big game hunting is allowed, and especially mule deer and elk are very sought-after. As well, fishing is also quite excellent-don't miss out on the plentiful trophy steelhead and salmon. Closer to home, the two rivers nearby, Snake and Payette, provide sterling opportunities for steelhead fishing and whitewater rafting.
Fruitland has one city park, the simply named Community Park. The locals' choice for weddings, picnics and just chilling and hanging out, Community Park truly serves as a hub for Fruitland's residents. Fruitland is also host to a unique festival, the National Old-time Fiddler's Contest and Festival, held in June.
Nearby Shopping
For the intense and determined shopaholic, perhaps Fruitland is not, or probably should not be, one's first choice. Due to the diminutive size of the town, most serious shoppers would be better off driving to nearby Nampa or Boise, but Ontario, OR is just across the border for the basics and some great shopping with no sales tax!
