There are homes and land for sale in this region for people who want recreational property or for those who just want to enjoy the mountains and rushing rivers year-round. Riggins, the town, has a population under 500 people but many residents live outside of the city limits in unincorporated areas. Only $60,000 is asked for 15.6 acres of land near the Little Salmon river on Highway 95, the main road connecting Idaho's panhandle with the southern part of the state. Riggins is actually located in a canyon cut by the Salmon so land may not always be flat!

Salmon, sturgeon, steelhead and trout attract anglers from everywhere! The Salmon river is known for its rapids and quiet pools where the fish linger waiting for bait or a lure. Salmon running 18 to 40 inches in length are common in the spring. Fishing season is most of the year with runs of sturgeon and steelhead common in the fall.
The Salmon is the infamous "river of no return" and a great place for kayaking and rafting. Riggins has billed itself "Idaho's Whitewater Capital" according to the Salmon River Chamber of Commerce. Professional river guide services are available for kayaking and rafting through the Salmon's rapids. Jet and drift boat excursions offer hunters an opportunity to seek a variety of upland game birds including pheasant, chuker, grouse and partridge. Boating the rivers makes it easier than hiking up steep mountainside to find the game birds.
NEIGHBORHOOD AND PARKS
Riggens is on the western edge of the Nez Perce and Payette national forests with rugged mountains for experienced hikers. Seasonal big game hunting is allowed in the forest area during the fall with permits for whitetail deer, elk, moose, black bear, cougar, big horn sheep and mountain goat.
NEARBY SHOPPING
Visitors to Riggins will find family-owned stores selling food and beverages for campers, anglers and hunters. This is the place to find knowledgeable guides, outfitters and supplies for kayak, fishing and hunting expeditions. The town also has restaurants and motels offering the usual amenities along with great views of the mountains and rivers.
