Age of homes
Homes in Shoshone tend to be a little older than the national average. Idaho real estate in Shoshone is typically about 32 years old. However, the buildings are beautiful and will impress even the most selective of buyers.
Home Values
Now is the time to purchase Shoshone properties for sale. The average cost of real estate in the city is $112,000. The cost of detached units is only slightly higher at approximately $117,000, while 3-to-4 unit structures are more costly at a mean of $183,000. Rent is typically about $562 a month, but purchasing is a solid investment right now due to the low cost of homes. (Values estimated as of June 2011.)
Area Information
Shoshone is named for the Native American tribe that used to reside in this southern portion of Idaho. It's a railroad hub, and for some time was the only station in south central Idaho associated with Amtrak. For this reason, it is an important settlement and one that has developed into a growing population of 1,600 people. Nestled in the Magic Valley, Shoshone sits at an elevation of 3,965 feet and encompasses about one square mile of land.
Neighborhoods & Parks
Shoshone is a small town but is also the county seat for Lincoln County, which is mostly farmland boasting a total population of about 3,000. The Mary L. Gooding Memorial Park can be found near the Little Wood River as well as the site of Oregon Trail campsites. Shoshone real estate owners also enjoy the fascinating lava formations in the Gooding City of Rocks and around the rest of the town. There are also hiking trails such as the Quamash Trail, which was a Native American trading route that survives today.
Nearby Shopping
Small businesses have made a living in Shoshone but their numbers are limited as the town is small. There are hardware and furniture stores available, as well as restaurants such as the Shoshone Snack Bar. For more shopping, residents can travel south to Twin Falls, which is the largest city in a 100 mile radius.
Economic Detail
Shoshone relies largely on farming as its primary economic resource. The Bureau of Land Management has a facility in the town, and its significant railroad access - which has made the town known for having one of the widest main streets in the country - makes the town vital to accessing the surrounding area. The altitude and proximity to geological features such as the natural caves and hot springs make it a popular destination for those who are interested in nature's beauty.
