parks and historical sites. Almo is less than 15 minutes from Castle
Rocks State Park
and the City of Rocks National Reserve,
whose headquarters is located in the town. City of Rocks
is renowned for its extraordinary rock formations and is a favorite with rock
climbing enthusiasts. Most of the park's rocks are granite, and some formations
are as tall as 600 ft. The park contains a formation known as “Register Rock,”
where pioneers traveling the California Trail by wagon wrote their names or
initials in axle grease. The reserve is rich with remnants of Native American
and California Trail history.
Nearby Shopping
Almo has a few small shops, including a gift shop and the historical Tracy
General Store. For any real shopping, however, it is necessary to make a trek. The nearest grocery store is 45 minutes away in Albion.
There are a Walmart Supercenter,
a Bealls, and a few furniture stores and shopping centers in Burley, about an
hour and 20 minutes' drive away.
